Narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas
Whoever hears the call and does not come, there is no prayer for him, unless he has an excuse.
Sunan Ibn Majah 793
What this hadith teaches
Scholars explain "no prayer" as no complete prayer: the reward of the congregation is lost, and he is sinful if he had no excuse such as illness, fear or heavy rain.
