How to begin a dua

Start with praise of Allah, then blessings on the Prophet ﷺ, then ask.

Narrated by Fadalah ibn Ubaid

The Prophet ﷺ heard a man supplicating in his prayer without praising Allah or sending blessings on the Prophet, and said: "This man has been hasty." Then he said: "When one of you prays, let him begin with praising his Lord and glorifying Him, then send blessings upon the Prophet, then supplicate for whatever he wishes."
