Narrated by Abu Hurairah
The first deed a servant will be asked about on the Day of Resurrection is the prayer. If it is sound, he will succeed and prosper; if it is lacking, he will fail and lose. If anything is missing from his obligatory prayer, the Lord will say: "See whether My servant has any voluntary prayers to make up what is missing." Then the rest of his deeds will be treated the same way.

What this hadith teaches
The prayer is the first thing weighed, and the rest follows it. The hadith also shows the value of voluntary prayers: they fill the gaps in our obligatory ones.
