What Al-Hayy means
Al-Hayy means the Ever-Living, whose life is perfect, with no beginning and no end. He never sleeps, never gets tired and will never die (25:58). Everything else that lives was given life by Him and will die, but He remains. Some scholars said that 'Al-Hayy al-Qayyum' is Allah's Greatest Name.

Living by this name
Rely on the Ever-Living who never dies, not on people. The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say in hardship: 'Ya Hayyu ya Qayyum, bi rahmatika astaghith', O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining, by Your mercy I seek help (at-Tirmidhi).
