What Al-Qabid means
Al-Qabid means the One who holds back and tightens, by His wisdom. He may make provision tight for a person for a time, and He takes back souls at death. When He holds back, it is never unfair; it may be a test, a lesson or a protection. His holding back and His giving always go together (2:245).

In the Qur'an
The name itself is not in the Qur'an as a name, but its meaning is, as in this verse.
Scholars advise mentioning this name together with Al-Basit, as in the hadith: 'Allah is the One who holds back and extends, the Provider' (Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi).
