What Ar-Rahman means
Ar-Rahman means the One whose mercy is vast and reaches all of creation. Believers and non-believers, people and animals, all live by His mercy: the air we breathe, the rain, our food and the love of a mother for her child. This name belongs to Allah alone; no one else may be called Ar-Rahman. It opens every surah of the Qur'an except one, in 'Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim'.

Living by this name
Begin your actions with 'Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim' and show mercy to others, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that the merciful are shown mercy by Ar-Rahman (Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi). Call on Him: Ya Rahman, cover me with Your mercy.
